Staff leasing, dedicated team or full outsourcing?

A practical guide for US engineering and product leaders who need more delivery capacity without another year of hiring. We compare the three ways to work with a nearshore partner, show when each one fits, and explain how to make a team in Europe work on your hours.

Sheet02 Summary

Five takeaways.

If you read only one page, read this one.

02.1

Pick the model by who owns the result

Staff leasing keeps ownership with you, a dedicated team shares it, and project outsourcing moves it to the partner. Start from that question, not from the price.

02.2

A US hire costs more than the salary

Benefits add about 30% on top of wages in US private industry.2 Recruiting fees, equipment and ramp-up come on top of that.

02.3

Time zones are a scheduling choice

A team in Kosovo can work a shifted day with 6 or more shared hours, or fully on US hours. Agree on it in the contract, per person.

02.4

Start small, keep the contract

One master agreement lets you start with a single developer and move to a team or a project later, without a new vendor review.

02.5

Settle risk before day one

IP assignment, a security review, replacement terms and a conversion option should be in the agreement, not negotiated later.

Sheet03 The problem

Capacity is the constraint, and hiring is slow and expensive.

Most US engineering teams have more roadmap than people. The usual answer is to hire, but a full-time hire takes months to find, onboard and ramp, and it is a fixed cost from the first day.

The median US software developer earned $133,080 a year in the latest federal wage survey.1 In private industry, benefits make up about 30% of total compensation.2 Taken together, a median developer costs roughly $190,000 a year before recruiting fees, equipment, office space and management time.

The question is not only “how do we hire faster?” but “which work needs a permanent hire at all?”

A nearshore partner gives you a second route. You add capacity in weeks, scale it monthly, and keep permanent hiring for the roles that need it.

Sheet04 Three models

Three ways to add engineering capacity.

The models differ in how much of the delivery responsibility you hand over. All three can run under one master services agreement, with each engagement added as a statement of work.

04.1Delivery: you

Staff leasing

Developers join your team, use your tools and follow your process. You manage their work day to day. Vertiqos stays the employer and handles hiring, payroll, equipment and retention.

Best when

  • aYou have strong engineering leadership
  • bYou need specific skills, fast
  • cThe need may change within months

Terms

  • aFrom 1 developer, from 1 month
  • b30 days' notice
  • cMonthly or hourly rate
04.2Delivery: shared

Dedicated team

A stable, cross-functional team works only on your product, led by a senior Vertiqos team lead. You set priorities and review output; we hire, manage and keep the team together.

Best when

  • aYou have a long-running product or platform
  • bYou want capacity without the management load
  • cContinuity of people matters

Terms

  • aFrom 3 people, senior lead included
  • b3-month minimum, then scale monthly
  • cMonthly fee per team
04.3Delivery: Vertiqos

Full project outsourcing

We build a defined product or feature for you: discovery, design, development, testing and launch. A Vertiqos project lead and tech lead are accountable for scope, schedule and quality.

Best when

  • aThe outcome can be specified
  • bYour team is busy with the core product
  • cYou want a predictable budget

Terms

  • aPaid discovery of 1–3 weeks
  • bFixed price or capped hours per SOW
  • cDemo every 2-week sprint

Sheet05 Choosing

A quick decision guide.

Answer the questions on the right in order. The first one that fits usually points to the right model.

Many clients combine models over time: they start with one or two leased developers to test the fit, grow into a dedicated team, and hand separate initiatives to a project team. Under one agreement that move is a new statement of work, not a new procurement process.

  1. Do you need one specific skill in your existing team, within weeks?Staff leasing
  2. Will the need last a year or more, and do you lack time to manage more people?Dedicated team
  3. Can you describe the outcome, and do you want one party accountable for it?Project
  4. Is the scope still unclear?Paid discovery first
  5. Do you want to test a partner before committing?Lease 1–2 developers
  6. Do you expect to hire the people yourself later?Leasing with conversion
Sheet06 Time zones

Making a European team work on American hours.

Prishtina is six hours ahead of New York. On a standard European day that leaves about three shared hours, which is too little for a developer inside a US team.

The fix is to agree the shift up front. Our engineers work a shifted day with six to eight hours of overlap, or fully on Eastern hours. Many developers in Kosovo already work for US companies on US time, so a shifted schedule is part of the role, not an exception. Central and Pacific hours are possible by agreement.

The agreed shift is written into each statement of work, per person, so stand-ups, reviews and incident response fall inside your working day.

Sheet07 Risk

What to settle in the contract before day one.

Most problems with outsourcing come from things nobody agreed on. Use this list in your own vendor review, with us or with anyone else.

07.1

IP assignment

All work product is assigned to you on payment. Work in your repositories from day one if you prefer.

07.2

Security review

The partner completes your security questionnaire before access is granted and follows your access policies: MFA, least privilege, no client data on personal devices.

07.3

Replacement guarantee

If a person is not a fit in the first two weeks, those days are not invoiced and a replacement is proposed.

07.4

Continuity

Notice periods, knowledge handover and backup cover for leave and attrition are written down per engagement.

07.5

Conversion option

The right to hire a leased developer directly, after a set period and for a fee agreed up front.

07.6

Commercial terms

Mutual NDA before technical sessions, non-solicitation both ways, invoicing in USD, net 30.

Sheet08 Kosovo

Why Kosovo, and why Vertiqos.

Kosovo has one of the youngest populations in Europe and a fast-growing tech sector where English is the working language. Vertiqos runs recruitment in Prishtina, so we hire from a pipeline we already know.

08.1

Young, English-speaking talent

Engineers work in English every day, in your tools: Slack, Teams, Jira, GitHub.

08.2

US hours are normal here

Working for US companies on US time is common, so shifted schedules are part of the job.

08.3

Recruitment in-house

Our own recruitment desk in Prishtina sources and screens every profile, which keeps placement times at 1–2 weeks.

08.4

One partner, three models

Staff leasing, dedicated teams and project delivery under one agreement, with one point of contact.

Sheet09 Getting started
